Genetic testing for colorectal cancers usually involves the analysis of an individual's DNA. When the results of genetic testing are abnormal, it can provide information about the risk of developing colorectal cancer and the likelihood of having abnormal chromosomes. Other factors, such as family history, lifestyle factors and environmental exposures, also play important roles in the development of colorectal cancer.

At present, the mainstream gene tests conducted in hospitals are mainly FAP gene tests, HNPCC gene tests, MSH6 gene tests, MLH1 gene tests, and APC gene tests.

FAP (Familial Adenomatous Polyposis) gene test is used to detect chromosome 5q22 genes. In this gene abnormality, each individual will have more than 100 polyps and a very high risk of colorectal cancer.

HNPCC (Hereditary Non-Polyposis Colorectal Cancer) gene test is used to detect mutations in several mismatch repair genes (MSH2, MLH1, MSH6, PMS2). This gene abnormality leads to hereditary polyposis colorectal cancer.

MSH6 gene test is used to detect gene abnormalities of chromosome 2p16. Familial polyposis colorectal cancer is mainly caused by its gene abnormality.

MLH1 gene test is used to detect gene abnormalities of chromosome 3p21 luminal. It can also cause familial polyposis colorectal cancer.

APC gene test is used to detect gene abnormalities of chromosome 5q21. It is a common cause of familial adenomatous polyposis.

Genetic testing helps doctors to identify current and possible future risk factors, assess the risk of recurrence, guide individualized treatment, provide timely help for patients at risk of early cancer, and even choose to participate in clinical trials or screening screening. . In short, genetic testing helps physicians to provide more comprehensive and accurate prevention strategies for colorectal cancer.
